Philippines: Women are partners in development
Women in Mindanao, in southern Philippines, are proving to be strong partners in development. They play a vital role in ensuring the success and sustainability of projects under the Mindanao Trust Fund (MTF). The Bank-managed trust fund assists in the socio-economic recovery of conflict-affected communities in Mindanao.
PLEDGE Enterprise and Livelihood Graduation Ceremony, Polomolok, South Cotabato, August 18, 2015
On August 18, 2015, 82 Programme for Local Economic Development through Enhanced Governance and Grassroots Empowerment (PLEDGE) beneficiaries from Barangay Koronadal Proper completed five months of community-based enterprise trainings on home décor and garment making; catering and food processing; rice and corn production and equipment rental; and banana processing.
MTF Media Visit, Maguindanao, May 23 and 24, 2015
TV, print, and radio reporters were invited to the first MTF Media Visit to assess the gains of the facility’s efforts in promoting socioeconomic recovery in conflict-affected communities in Mindanao. Barangay Romongaob—a tri-people community of nearly 6,000 residents in South Upi, Maguindanao—reported not only increased income and savings due to the MTF-provided corn sheller, solar dyer, and warehouse but that the participatory-based approach of the CDD/CDR program engendered social cohesion among the diverse IP, Muslim, and Christian residents.
11th Implementation Support Mission, Davao and Southern Mindanao, April 13 to 17, 2015
The MTF held its 11th and last Implementation Support Mission (ISM) in Davao and Southern Mindanao. The five-day event was jointly conducted by the Bangsamoro Development Agency (BDA), Community and Family Services International (CFSI), the Mindanao Land Foundation (MinLand), the International Labour Organization (ILO), the European Union (EU), and the World Bank.
Bangsamoro Development Plan (BDP)
The Bangsamoro Development Plan is reportedly the first socioeconomic roadmap written by a revolutionary group. Under the directive of the MILF Central Committee Chairman Al-Haj Murad Ebrahim, the Bangsamoro Development Agency (BDA) led the formulation of the 200-page document, which recommends comprehensive strategies in the areas of economy and livelihood; infrastructure; social service; environment and natural resources; culture and identity; and governance for the recovery and rehabilitation of the Bangsamoro.
Operational Support to the Project Management Team (PMT) of the Sajahatra Bangsamoro Program
The Sajahatra Bangsamoro Program is the first joint peace and development initiative of the Philippine Government and the MILF. Grounded on the 2012 Framework Agreement on the Bangsamoro, the program delivers health, education, and livelihood programs to conflict-affected and poverty-stricken areas in Mindanao.
Programme for Local Economic Development through Enlightened Governance and Grassroots Empowerment (PLEDGE)
PLEDGE was formed in 2012 after the MTF expanded its development efforts to support the Philippine Government and MILF peace process. It is a community livelihood and enterprise program that provides business trainings, market linkages, and business tools and equipment in 11 conflict-affected areas in Mindanao.
Community-Driven Development / Community-Driven Reconstruction (CDD/CDR)
Starting in 2006, the Community-Driven Development/Community-Driven Reconstruction program has completed 314 subprojects in 214 barangays across 12 provinces in Mindanao. MTF’s provision of community-identified water systems, access roads, electrification, shelters, and post-harvest facilities benefited half a million people.
